Behind the Scenes: A Ground Floor Transformation in Weybridge, Surrey
There’s something so satisfying about seeing a home start to come to life, especially when it’s a Victorian home renovation right here in Weybridge, Surrey. This project is all about transforming the ground floor into a space that feels elegant, characterful, and effortlessly functional for modern family life.
As a Surrey-based interior designer, I love blending modern traditional design with a bold use of colour, pattern, and texture and creating homes that feel warm, personal, and full of personality that feels amazing to live in.
Phase One: Setting the Foundations
Over the past ten days, we’ve made fantastic progress on this ground floor renovation. The old radiators have been removed, ready to make way for new traditional cast iron-style radiators. We tackled the plumbing updates to future-proof the system and ensure everything works perfectly once the new flooring and finishes are in.
Lighting has also had an overhaul with new fittings, switches, and sockets throughout. The right lighting plan changes everything, adding warmth, depth, and atmosphere to any space making it feel homely and cosy - especially as we go into the darker months.
We’ve installed timeless wall panelling that enhances the property’s Victorian character and creates instant impact. Who doesn’t love a bit of panelling!
Thoughtful Touches and Beautiful Details
We’ve designed a bespoke fitted TV unit that is simple and effective, which cleverly conceals the fuse board. Functional and beautiful and safe in equal measure. New coving has gone in to restore period detail, and creates that feeling of a high-quality finish. Coving with detail on it is what we have choosen so that it doesn’t feel like the 1990’s but rather, a modern twist on a traditional feature.
In the kitchen, we refreshed the space with a new worktop, splashback, and upper cabinetry to create storage that feels light, uncluttered, and stylish. It’s a great example of how small design changes can completely transform your home without the need for a full re-fit. We choose a Carrara pattern to make this kitchen feel timeless and not follow in the current marble, deep vein trend.
A Collaborative Process
I’ve been working with my trusted Surrey contractor, someone I’ve partnered with for years. Communication, collaboration, and attention to detail are everything when creating luxury home interiors — and this project has been seamless because of that shared commitment.
What’s Next
We’re now lifting up the old flooring and have discovered some hidden damp issues beneath. These will be resolved before laying luxury vinyl herringbone flooring in a warm oak tone. It’s the perfect blend of practicality and timeless elegance — durable enough for everyday life, yet refined enough to complement the rest of the design.
This is just Phase One, but the transformation is already incredible.
